Anything else not want to work today?

Ever since I updated QuickTime this morning, nothing on my computer seems to want to work correctly. Not only did QuickTime break my appearance preferences, it broke every other god damn one I have stored on my Mac. And no, I am not bullshitting that. I’ve been working the whole day to try and fix the damage. Everything but my theme is back to normal. I just don’t get how updating QT could break my theme program, Shapeshifter from Unsanity. I’ve had no problems with it until 7:10 this morning, after my computer rebooted from installing the QT update. Now finder and a bunch of other random apps are no longer themed. My other programs are showing up as they should so why the hell isn’t Finder and iTunes and iCal (just to name a few)? I’ve tried reapplying the theme and rebooting multiple times and even that won’t seem to fix it. I’ve checked to see if it’s the theme and it’s not. I’ve rebuilt all my chase files – not that either. Startup items, nope. Now I’m stuck seeing the butt ass ugly Aqua 10.4.11 theme randomly on applications. And incase you couldn’t tell, I’m pretty damn pissed off.

If anyone has any troubleshooting ideas, please, please, comment. I almost threw the keyboard at the monitor an hour ago.

Update: Finally got the son of a bitch working again. Now time to sleep.

Windows 7

As a Mac user and fanboy, it’s not easy to say this but Windows 7 is pretty damn cool. For a beta it’s remarkably stable and feature rich. Installation was unnaturally fast for a windows os – 30 minutes. However, add to that another 8 to download and install missing drivers. So far everything is showing innovation and an impressive amount of thought from Microsoft. Take for example the boot screen; it’s simple, it’s animated in full color, and it’s fast – even on a system that’s at least 3-4 years old. Microsoft is pushing simplicity with windows 7 in hopes of covering up the Vista problem, and they are doing a very good job at delivering it. The icon only taskbar was a particularly smart move in addition to those quick start menu things select programs have and what I consider to be most important, a drastically improved system tray. Remember how cluttered it could get in XP (and likely even more in Vista)? Well Microsoft has made a smart move in making icons only show up when a user explicitly states they are allowed to. New tray icons are banished to the more arrow, never to appear until they are granted permission to.

You may be wondering why I’m testing Win7 if I have a Mac. Well it’s because Windows still dominates the market and so therefore, I still have to use it daily at school and therefore wanted to get a first look at what’s coming. I also wanted to see if the guys up north are finally catching up to Apple and what osx can do. Microsoft is getting closer, but they still have a very long way to go. That said, Windows 7 beta build 7k gets a 8.7 out of 10 (hit hardest by the terrible control panel UI).

The Way I See It: Ideas

People value new ideas. How do I know? Well, you are reading one but in all seriousness, there’s a few. For one, think about the last advertisement you’ve seen. How did it get there? How did they come up with it? What’s it for? The answer to all three: a new idea.

Now just take a look around you in general. How many things are not how they were yesterday? The weather doesn’t count. But in all seriousness, did you ever think it was because someone had an idea?

Maybe you noticed a poster in a different location today. Why could that be? Was it because a new poster is there? Maybe out of wall space? Or how about because it looks better in it’s new location? Who knows, but an idea could’ve plaid some part.

Perhaps you’ve realized it and perhaps you haven’t, but there is an idea behind everything. Sometimes it’s even more than one. Even you are the result of an idea… and I think you know what I mean.
